    Digital Archaeology Reflection

My group selected an Ipod Touch 4th Generation that Gabby had at her home and was able to bring back from Spring Break. After deconstructing the Itouch and taking photographs, we claimed pieces on a Google Doc to start our research. We then uploaded our findings to a Google Sheets document. I researched three pieces for my portion of this project. I chose the Logic Board, the Wifi/Bluetooth Chip, and the DRAM memory card. For some reason, another team member also did the DRAM, so I let her have it since it was my third piece. I was not able to find any good information on another piece, so I…

    Methodology Module Reflection

This was a semi challenging module to complete. It took more technical skills than the other modules we have completed, but was not as difficult to complete as our Archaeology Module. I really liked picking a book in a series and comparing to others doing the rest of the series. To make my website, I used Sublime. I was already a little familiar with Sublime from work I did for my After Books seminar, but this was a bit different and required me to learn some new tricks! My project was very successful. I set out three things that I wanted to learn, then I did my researched, analyzed my…

    Working on Methodology Module

For my last module, the methodology module, I have chosen to do text analysis. I think it will be a really interesting module. My group chose to do the Twilight series. We will each analyze one of the four books, and then we can compare. My book is Eclipse-the third book in the series. I am going to use Voyant to do my text analysis. Before I use this tool, I have some reading on text analysis to do! I want to find out what general types of information I can gather from a text analysis, and learn how to use that quantitative data to support my claim (or discredit…

    Methodology Module Selection

I have chosen to do text analysis the methodology module. My group has decided to do the entire Twilight series. I personally am looking at the book Eclipse. I think that this series will be really interesting to do because Stephanie Meyer is often ridiculed for her writing.

    Digital Archaeology-Almost Completed

I am almost done my digital archaeology module, but I am very frustrated with it. The research for it has been much harder than I anticipated. I was able to successfully get to a street view of one factory, but not of the other. Also, I had researched three components successfully, but then found out another member of my group did, so I was then down to two. It has been very hard to find a lot of specific details on these pieces because it was before the Apple factory scandal happened, so the information is kept much more private/secret/hidden. I felt like I had put in a lot of…

    #boycottNRA

#boycottNRA   Hashtag activism has an increasingly important and prominent role in our society. Social media, in particular Twitter, gives everyone a voice. It provides a platform to groups of people who have historically been ignored or silenced. It is now an integral part of boosting a movement and increasing awareness of a cause or problem.   Prominent hashtags of the last few years include #blacklivesmatter, #metoo, #ferguson, #icantbreathe, #sayhisname, #yesallwomen, and many more. In talking about the results post protests in Ferguson, Philip Howard, the Principle Investigator for Digital Activism Research Project, stated that ‚ÄúThis is an example of how hashtag activism, with massive public demonstrations and sustained news…

    Activism&Agency Module-Reflection

#BoycottNRA My group chose to track the boycottNRA hashtag. Originally, we wanted to use the metoo hashtag. My idea for this was that we could pick a start date based off of when #metoo started being a rally cry in the public sphere, track it at its peak, and then subsequent decline. This was ultimately not possible, because of limitations within TAGS. We then moved onto #boycottNRA. I learned how to archive tweets from Twitter. Previous to this, I did not know how. I had never done a project like this before, and I do not have a Twitter for personal use. I set up my TAGS to update every…

    Activism&Agency Module-Update

I was able to start the module successfully. I am tracking the #boycottNRA hashtag. It is so prominent after the Parkland shooting that I gathered over 25,000 tweets by having my TAGS update every hour. I am currently having trouble with Node. I cannot figure out how to get it to work, but I am not sure why. I have done the readings for this module, and a lot of them were super interesting! There was a heavy focus on Ferguson, which makes sense, considering that #ferguson and #blacklivesmatter (which really rose to prominence in this time) were hugely impactful and everyone knew about them. So far, besides Node, this…
